BASICS (Businesses and Schools Investing in Cooperative Solutions), a program of the Blair County Chamber of Commerce, is dedicated to fostering a strong partnership between our schools and the business community and communicating career choices to students, parents, and educators, so they can prepare themselves today for the challenges of tomorrow.

Healthcare Employment Symposium Coming November 2-3

The critical need for employees in the healthcare sector of our region has prompted the BASICS Committee of the Blair County Chamber to create a two-day event that will bring together key stakeholders to discuss ways to address current employment shortfalls as well as strengthening career options for local students. The Healthcare Employment Symposium will be held on November 2nd and 3rd from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the Devorris Center for Business Development. Volunteers Prepare for Career Shadowing Week November 15-19

Career Shadowing Week is scheduled for November 15-19, and this year that experience is available to Blair County high school juniors and seniors who have applied. The application deadline was September 29th, and now volunteers for the Blair County Chamber's Career Development Subcommittee are busily finding shadowing opportunities for the students. Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) Offers Business Volunteer Opportunities

The Blair County Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) is a success because of the business community's active involvement. Become involved through one of these volunteer opportunities: Business Mentor, Guest Speaker, Field Trip Host. The time commitment is minimal, but the rewards for you and the students are tremendous. Healthy Blair County Coalition Presenting Youth Connection Summit 2

The Youth Connection Summit 2 will be held Thursday, November 4, at the Blair County Convention Center. Attendees will enjoy a continental breakfast from 7:45–8:15 AM. The conference will run from 8:15 AM - 12:15 PM. The goal of this Summit is to understand issues impacting youth and discuss how we work together as a community. Much has been accomplished since our first Summit; partnerships were formed, and youth were connected to programs and community partners that provided pathways of opportunity.
